PHANG NGA, THAILAND – The 20-year-old Thai student who lost her leg shortly after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has passed away. Ketsiri Kongkaew got the vaccine on August 13th and had her left leg surgically removed above the knee just a week later. The college student died yesterday at 6:30 pm after suffering a brain hemorrhage.

Kongkaew had her operation on September 3rd at Krabi Hospital who said that her condition had improved and she was sent back to Phang Nga Hospital for recovery. Her health suddenly deteriorated last week and it was revealed that she had suffered brain bleedings on the night of Friday, October 22nd. An emergency brain surgery was performed on the early morning of Saturday but she didn’t recover.

Fellow students at Phangnga Community College and friends had raised money for Kongkaew after her amputation to buy a prosthetic leg so that she could go to school again after her recovery. Her sudden death has left her relatives and friends devastated.
